One Swipe at a Time

We raise our children for marriages
Teach boys to become husbands and fathers
Teach girls to become wives and mothers
Men become decision-makers,
Women become the doers and the acceptors.
On the large screen of life,
Men reject, and women get rejected.
But on the smaller screens of our mobile phones,
The power play becomes lenient.
Women are also rejecting and
Men are also being rejected.
On mobile screens,
Traditional factors of marriage
Like caste, class, and family heritage
Remain hidden.
On the screens here,
Our desires are on display
With full brightness on.
This brightness hides your secrets.
Bodies here,
Are a click away.
Meetings here,
Don’t necessarily become unions.
Our existence and erasure here
Is a click away.
Here, we play team games
With options that have hearts, flesh, and blood.
Here, we live and die multiple times -
With one swipe at a time : )
