Often, in our most loved bonds, we experience hurt. Hurt so deep, that it can affect our ability to voice up; it can make us go silent. But what does this silence look like?

Do not misconstrue my silence as weak,

For in Audre Lorde's wisdom, she does speak,

"My silence will not protect me," she imparts,

Acknowledging the art of self-preservation, vital and true.

My silence, a fortress that shields my soul,

Preserves me from becoming a mere part of the whole.

Your words, so loud and brash, take their toll,

Abusive and toxic, they fail to subdue.

They push me towards self-communication,

Within a world of profound contemplation.

When I go quiet, strategies arise,

A plotting of moves against your guise.

Strength gathers within, beliefs crystallize,

Silent power blossoms, ready to rise.

I choose silence for myself, you see,

When your violence is aimed at me.

Temporarily quiet, I may seem,

But it's a pause, a tactical retreat,

To emerge forever powerful, like a dream,

Empowered, resolute, my victory sweet.

Rejoice not in the silence you perceive,

For my unleashed voice, you shall receive.
