I embrace your will your judgments on my life
Life begins
Nature greets me with tears
Perhaps to prepare me
For words that will soon greet me
That I’m not worthy of being born
Still I rise
Naïve and trusting
That the hands that hold me
Are meant to keep me safe
Soon as my arms and feet grow stronger
Only so I can serve in roles that await
Unpaid laborer and caretaker
Sex slave and eye candy
And the list goes endless as others’ wants
Still I rise
So, I can play my roles to ‘perfection’
Dying everyday so I can serve my ‘loved ones’ better
I discover the joy of learning
Play Art Music Sport
Still I rise
So, I can bear the pain when my dreams are crushed
Still I rise
With dreams that youth brings in its wake
I embrace your will your judgments on my life
Sold to slavery
Voice suppressed body abused
And thrown into the streets
When I’m no longer of use
Still I rise
Life refuses to give up on me
I learn means to keep myself alive
A trade a skill
Like an acrobat who has no choice in a circus
Still I rise
I learn to pick myself up again
And again and again
As I walk alone
Life begins
