Finding Justice Beyond the Legal Chains

I have a story that taught me something crucial about justice – something many of us might still struggle to understand or accept. Let's delve into this narrative and uncover its wisdom.

About four years ago, I was pursuing my Master's in Gender, Culture, and Development. This course shaped my perspective allowing me to learn and unlearn.

As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I often felt betrayed by loved ones who were supposed to ensure justice. This course taught me that justice can differ from one person to another.

My family came from a migrated village background untouched by formal understanding of law or justice. While I felt denied justice, they believed they had given me their version of it.

Once I understood their limitations, I couldn’t hold onto the hurt even though, as a survivor, the pain was natural.

At 23, I considered legal action filing a formal complaint against my abuser for an incident twenty years earlier. But lacking emotional, financial, and family support and with declining health I realized pursuing legal action would cost far more than I could bear.

During a conversation with my professor, she said words that still comfort me:

"Namrata, sometimes justice lies beyond the confines of the legal system. Study hard and soar so high that your abuser will never fathom how you could find such freedom amidst it all."

Those words became profound wisdom. I studied diligently and rose beyond the limitations of my past.

Sometimes justice means separation separation from toxicity, from pain, from what no longer serves us.

Toxic relationship patterns, family problems, domestic arguments, and unresolved trauma can trap us. But healing often happens outside the courtroom in personal growth, education, boundaries, and freedom.

May we create a world where justice, whether through family courtlegal action, or personal liberation, is truly accessible to all.
