The world of a war victim is a shattered kaleidoscope. 

Daily life, once a routine of familiar sights and sounds, 

Becomes a relentless assault on the senses. 

 

Rubble litters the dusty streets, a constant reminder of destruction. 
Air hangs heavy with smoke and the acrid tang of loss. 
Families scattered, loved ones lost in the chaos. 
Artillery fire shatters the fragile peace of the night. 
Hope flickers like a candle in the wind, yet somehow endures. 

 

Fear is a constant companion, 

A cold knot in the pit of your stomach that tightens with every air raid siren. 

Hunger gnaws at your insides, 

A constant reminder of the scarcity that has become your new normal. 

Sleep, when it comes,  

Is haunted by nightmares of violence and loss. 

 

In stark contrast exists a world seemingly untouched. 

Here, news of the conflict flickers on screens in comfortable living rooms, 

A fleeting image between weather forecasts and celebrity gossip. 

The distant rumble of war becomes background noise, 

Easily muted or tuned out altogether. 

People go about their days, their routines unbroken.  

They savour their morning coffee,  

Complain about traffic jams,  

And lose themselves in the pursuit of daily goals. 

 

This disparity is a gaping wound that festers in the hearts of war victims. 

It's the sting of a world seemingly indifferent to their suffering. 

The knowledge that people continue to laugh, love, and live  

While theirs is consumed by chaos.  

There's a sense of being forgotten,  

A feeling that their struggle is unseen and unheard. 

 

Yet, amidst the despair, a spark of defiance can flicker. 

For those fortunate enough to live in peace,  

The call is to bridge the gap,  

To move beyond indifference,  

And become a voice for the voiceless.  

Perhaps then, the shattered kaleidoscope of the war  

Can be pieced back together,  

With a little more light and a little less darkness.
