Searching: An Act of Curiosity or Fear?
As we traverse through life—in our varied roles as a mother, teacher, boyfriend, or even just a “liver,” as Orry would put it—we often struggle to accept the quirky, personal truths that make up our identities. In doing so, we can get entangled in the meanings we assign to moments—be it a failed project, unexpected praise, or unsettling silence.
And when we make these inferences, we sometimes become too harsh—either on ourselves or on those around us.
Knowing Yourself Before Reaching Outward
To truly be with someone—in any relationship—it’s essential to know who we are when we’re on our own.
This self-awareness can look like:
-
Noticing why silence feels awkward and needs to be “fixed”
-
Understanding why planning brings you calm, even if it overwhelms others
-
Remembering that being “social beings” means we’re wired for connection, no matter how different we feel
This Week’s Reflection: Searching
One common thread that unites all of us is the search—a quest for meaning, clarity, connection, or purpose.
But this search can also bring with it obsession, fear, control, desire, and even anger.
So, take a breath. Let’s pause and reflect on your journey so far.
Consider the following questions:
-
What is your purpose at this moment in your life?
-
What intentions surround this purpose?
-
How has your journey thus far shaped you—without labeling experiences as good or bad?
-
Are you comfortable with the current status quo, or is there a desire for shift?
-
What role does fear currently play in your life? Where does it hide? Where is it loud?
-
And just for reflection:
If curiosity and fear were best friends, how might that dynamic play out in your life?
An Invitation to Deeper Understanding
Through this ongoing series, we invite you to use these reflections not as definitive answers, but as gentle questions to explore:
-
Your roots
-
Your personal life philosophy
-
Your inner motivations
-
Your gifts—those often misunderstood or labeled as “too much,” yet needed more than ever in today’s world
