Exploring the Concept of Space
Understanding Ourselves Through Solitude and Connection
As we traverse through life in various capacities — as a mother, teacher, boyfriend, or just a “liver,” as Orry would say — we may often put off trying to fully accept our idiosyncratic roots along the way.
As we journey through different roles and phases of life, we inevitably become engrossed in the inferences we draw from outcomes — whether that’s a project’s success, words of praise, or even silence. And in those moments of reflection, we may unintentionally be harsh — on ourselves or others — based on what those outcomes seem to imply.
Being With Others Begins With Knowing Yourself
To truly be with someone — in any capacity — it’s essential to first understand how we are when we are alone.
This could mean:
-
Becoming aware of why silence feels awkward and needs to be filled
-
Recognizing why planning ahead brings calm, even if others see it as overthinking
-
Accepting that, despite our quirks and needs, human connection is essential — because we are, by nature, social beings
This Week’s Theme: SPACE
Let’s reflect on space — both the kind we create and the kind we need.
Here are a few journaling prompts to guide you:
-
What seems to define space for you?
-
How do you take up space when you’re with others?
-
How do you respond when someone asks for space?
-
Where in your life have you actively created space — and how did it feel?
-
Why is space important to you, and how can you embrace it more intentionally?
Delving Deeper Into Your Roots
Each week, through these prompts and reflections, we invite you to explore the foundations of your identity:
-
What motivates you?
-
What philosophies shape your life?
-
What unique traits or “too much” qualities have you had to defend — and why are they actually your gifts?
Our world doesn’t need less of you. It needs exactly what you bring — in all your authenticity.
