
Existing, Just As We Are
A Gentle Invitation to Be Present With Yourself
As we move through life—as a mother, teacher, boyfriend, or simply a “liver,” as Orry would put it—we often overlook the quirks and patterns that make us uniquely us.
What does that mean?
It means that in the midst of our daily roles and responsibilities, we can get caught up in interpreting the outcomes of our actions—how a project turned out, how a compliment was delivered, or even what a silence might mean. And in doing so, we can become harsh critics—of ourselves and others.
The Importance of Self-Awareness
To be with someone in any meaningful capacity, it's important to understand who we are when we're on our own.
This might involve:

Noticing why silences feel awkward and instinctively trying to fill them

Realizing why planning ahead feels calming, even if others find it excessive

Acknowledging that we are social beings, and needing connection is not a flaw, but a feature of being human

Let’s take a pause—not to fix, change, or improve anything, but simply to notice.
Ask yourself:

How are you doing today?

What was the weather like where you are?

What did you eat today—did you enjoy it?

Did you engage in any hobbies or watch/read something interesting?

Who did you connect with—professionally or personally?
Isn’t it kind of amazing to just exist?
