What The Youth Can Actually Do To Make The World A Better Place

Wed Aug 12 2026|Columnist: iDare Team

“The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow, but only if we let them lead today.” - Kofi Annan.

On International Youth Day, get to know the bold ways young people are retaining kindness and driving real change in a chaotic world.
What if the world feels like it’s on fire, yet you, yes, you reading this, are exactly the generation meant to carry the water?
International Youth Day arrives each year as both celebration and urgent call.

Young people today face record unemployment, climate anxiety, and digital overload. Yet 67% of people still believe in a better future because of youth-led momentum. At iDare, we validate the exhaustion and the fire in your belly. Your rage at injustice and your desire to stay kind are not contradictions, rather they are fuel.
Kindness as Radical Resistance

Kindness is not softness in a burning world it is strategic defiance. Research from UNDP and youth-led initiatives shows that communities with strong youth participation in local governance see faster progress on sustainability and social cohesion.

Youth are already leading. From climate strikes to mental health awareness campaigns on Instagram to community clean-ups that become movements. The real question is how to sustain kindness when the chaos tries to harden you.

Practical Ways Youth Can Make a Difference

Micro-Acts That Scale: Start a Kindness Chain in your college or workplace small, documented acts tracked publicly. One group in Kerala turned this into a statewide mental health support network.
Digital Empathy Labs: Use your tech-native strength to create safe online spaces. Youth who moderate communities with clear values report higher personal resilience and collective impact.
Intergenerational Listening Circles: Host monthly conversations between Gen Z and elders. Data shows these exchanges reduce generational stereotypes and build collective problem-solving power.

Young people who channel anger into structured action show lower burnout rates and higher life satisfaction, according to global youth wellbeing studies. Kindness practiced intentionally becomes a muscle.

Here is a short poem that resonated with me as I sat down to write this article:

We inherited smoke and fractured skies,
yet planted seeds between the cracks,
Our voices unapologetic, loud, kind.
Turned chaos into choirs of change.
This is not hope. This is happening.

This International Youth Day, choose one small action that aligns your values with your daily life. Whether it’s volunteering locally, creating content that heals, or simply listening deeply to someone different from you your move matters.

At iDare, we stand with the youth who refuse to let the world’s noise drown their kindness. International Youth Day is your reminder that impact and self-care go together. Reach out to iDare’s mental health experts and professionals for dedicated mental health care.
