A Therapist’s Reminder of What Can Help You Achieve Your Goals
Celebrating with The iDare Collective:
"Writing this piece felt important because so many of us carry silent burdens and unanswered questions we rarely give ourselves permission to pause and reflect. If you’re reading this , I want you to know you’re not alone in feeling stuck or uncertain; small steps can create real change. I’m someone who walks alongside others as they navigate life’s messiness, and I believe in the quiet power of starting again one gentle shift at a time."
Thank you for the privilege of your time
As a fellow traveller in my clients’ journeys, I often come across moments when they pause to take stock of their lives - reflecting on how they have lived and what they have achieved over time.
More often than not, these moments are accompanied by disappointment.
A sense of disheartenment.
And sometimes, the most crushing of all - hopelessness
Where Are We Today? What Have You Been Carrying?
Let’s begin with what’s weighing on your mind.
The jumbled, tangled mess of thoughts, feelings, memories, and dreams that you’ve been trying to make sense of.
You may ask yourself:
- What are my key concerns and fears?
- What patterns or themes can I identify in what’s been occupying my mind?
- What outcomes and aspirations do I truly long for?
What’s Bogging You Down?
As you begin moving toward your goals, certain thoughts and experiences may drain your energy or hold you back.
Try listing them out - without filtering, without judgment.
For example:
- Fear of failure rooted in past experiences
- Criticism from others
- Regret over time lost
…
Now, let’s gently reflect:
- Which of these are facts, and which are assumptions or interpretations?
- Are there aspects I can work on to improve my situation?
- Is there any support I can reach out to?
What Are My Daily Habits?
Let’s take a closer look at your everyday life.
Not the ideal routine.
Not the one you wish you had.
But the one you are actually living, day after day.
Consider:
- What consumes most of my time and energy?
- Which activities leave me feeling fulfilled, and which leave me drained?
- Where do I tend to procrastinate or avoid?
- What small actions do I repeat daily - consciously or unconsciously?
Our outcomes are rarely shaped by one grand effort.
More often, they are the result of patterns - small, repeated actions that accumulate over time.
If your current habits are not taking you where you wish to go, it does not mean you are incapable.
It simply means your system needs adjustment.
An Invitation
- Identify one habit that aligns with the outcome you desire
- Identify one habit that may be holding you back
- Observe one small, realistic change you can experiment with this week
Not perfection.
Not a complete overhaul.
Just a shift.
I invite you to the beginning.
To your version of a happily ever after
Not as a distant dream,
But as something shaped quietly, daily, through your choices.
To witness the subtle magic of the knock-on effect
Small changes leading to new habits,
And new habits leading you toward destinations
You once thought were out of reach.
Cheers, pal.
