I Swallow
Celebrating with The iDare Collective:
"I wrote this because some feelings only find their voice when given a safe space, and iDare became that space for me. If you’re reading this in silence, know that you are not alone. Here, even the quietest heartaches are allowed to be seen. This is what iDare makes possible: a place where our most vulnerable words can finally land.
This piece is for every person who has ever asked, Will I ever be loved? and is still waiting for an answer."
"Will I ever be loved?
Or was I only meant
to hear the same sentence
In different voices, you deserve better,
Just never me?
Will I keep collecting
these quiet rejections,
stitched in softer words
You're not enough,
I'll find someone better,
You never meant that much until they became
The only truth I know?
"You are good...
but not for me."
A gentle sentence,
with a cruel ending, one that leaves no scars outside,
but hollows everything within.
And still, I never tell you
How many people did I let go of
just to hold onto you, how I chose you
in a world full of choices,
only to be unchosen.
I never told you
how my heart learned to ache
in silence,
How it got tired
of being almost enough.
So now tell me, who will tell you it hurts?
That it spreads like darkness
through every quiet night?
Who will tell you
what it feels like
to watch my dreams
collapse without a sound?
Who will tell you
He still wants you,
still needs you,
still finds his only peace
in the thought of you?
Who will tell you
that his heart is fragile, stubborn, breaking
still begs for a place
inside yours?
